Waiting

The waiting room at the dental office was surprisingly quiet while my stomach was buzzing with nerves. I've been putting off this tooth extraction thing for months, but finally I came in, armed with dental insurance and the determination to have it pulled. I was nervous, this whole tooth extraction thing wasn't looking too good for me, I wanted to walk around, but it was best to keep the office quiet, so I sat down and casually picked up a magazine and started to read, at this point my mind couldn't even process what was in the magazine, I just needed my eyes to have something to do. I touched my wallet and thought about the financial side of things, the value of dental insurance put me down a little. I had to have a root canal a couple years ago and it was a rather unpleasant experience for the wallet. The last person to finish their treatment had come out and I put down the magazine I was holding and heard my name being called out. I entered the professional office, rinsed my mouth and sat in my assigned seat as instructed by the doctor. I simply nodded calmly as the dentist explained the procedure, mainly because this time I didn't have the cost at the forefront of my mind and didn't have to worry about paying a lot of money to let my tooth go peacefully. The dentist and I talked for a while about how insurance works, and they assured me that they would take care of filing the claim. I felt both nervous and relieved. Nervous because, well, who likes having their teeth pulled? Relaxed because I knew that financially, my wallet wouldn't have to suffer. Dental treatments are expensive, and routine cleanings and fillings can be costly not to mention the fact that I was having a tooth extracted, but with insurance, I could get the care I needed without spending a dime.

Without the psychological burden, the procedure was over quicker than I expected per se. The doctors numbly gave me a good aftercare after the extraction, helped me up, advised me on precautions, dental insurance follow-ups, and before I knew it I was back in the waiting room. My jaw was still a little sore from the anesthesia, which was quickly replaced by a sense of accomplishment that I had overcome my fear of the dentist, and thanks to my insurance, I didn't have to worry about the cost. I walked out of the clinic feeling grateful for my foresight in investing in dental insurance, saving money and having the peace of mind that I could protect my teeth without sacrificing other important expenses. Dental insurance may not be the most exciting thing in the world, but as long as it keeps your smile healthy and your wallet happy, it's worth every penny.
