How fillings work.

A filling is both a common and important dental procedure that involves delicate and rigorous steps. First, your dentist will clean your mouth with special tools to make it sterile and examine your teeth thoroughly. Next, he will use an anaesthetic to reduce any pain you may feel. Once anaesthetised, the dentist will use a fine drill to gently remove the diseased part of the tooth with precision and care, like a sculptor skilfully shaping a plaster statue. He will then select a filling that matches the colour of your tooth, carefully shaping and filling the missing portion of the tooth like an artist selecting colours on a canvas. Once the filling has hardened, he will use special tools to sand and polish it so that the new filling blends in perfectly with the original tooth, just as if the new part had grown out naturally.
